Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (R) and Syrian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran on July 4, 2012.
“The main enemies of nations are desperately trying to revive their dominance over the region and save the Zionist regime (Israel) from the danger of annihilation,” said President Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Syrian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran on Wednesday.
The Israeli regime is nearing its collapse. Certain regional governments establish “covert contacts” with the Israeli regime under the delusion that they can get help in order to remain in power, he added.
The Iranian chief executive described as a “blatant lie” claims by hegemonic powers about their efforts to establish democracy, respect nations and give freedom to them.
Certain governments have maintained amicable relations with the leaders of arrogant powers while setting up a complete dictatorship in their own countries, he pointed out.
Ahmadinejad said Americans are merely seeking to meet their own interests, but this is a right of regional nations, including the Syrian people, to freely decide on their destiny. The others should not impose their own will on nations. The Iranian president expressed hope the Syrian people would resolve the ongoing problems in the country and live in peace and security.
Laham, for his part, said his country is determined to further improve relations with Tehran.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.
The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters, but Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
