The managing director
of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) says Turkey and Pakistan have
asked for more gas imports from Iran.
Javad Owji said Wednesday that Turkey, currently importing 30
million cubic meters of natural gas from Iran on a daily basis, has
asked for four to five more million cubic meters of Iranian gas a day.
He also said that the Iranian oil minister will visit Turkey within the next three weeks to attend a meeting to discuss Iran's additional gas supplies to its northwestern neighbor.
Owji further pointed out that the Pakistani energy minister has also asked for further gas imports from Iran, which will increase Iran's sales to Pakistan from the current 23 million to 30 million cubic meters on a daily basis.
The Iranian official noted that Iran is capable of supplying the demanded gas as it plans to increase its gas production by 1.5 times by the end of the next year, which will therefore increase the country’s production capacity by 150 million cubic meters.
